Bio
Isabel has enjoyed dancing, movement and costuming since childhood, and was introduced to belly dance in 2004 by the lovely dancers of n.o.madic tribal of New Orleans. She began studying American Tribal Style with n.o.madic and cabaret with the dynamic and beautiful Layla Isis. Isabel immediately fell in love with the danse orientale for its supple movements and powerful musical interpretation.
Since moving from New Orleans to Washington DC in 2005, Isabel has performed cabaret and tribal fusion belly dance as a member of Pop Raqs DC and Pure DC. She currently performs as a member of Raqs Caravan East student company at Sahara Dance. She has been seen dancing at local venues including Veranda Restaurant in Northwest DC and Taste of Morroco in Silver Spring. Isabel appears frequently at private parties, haflas, workshops and community events, and is currently pursuing select restaurant and club gigs in Baltimore, Washington DC and surrounding areas.
In addition to performing oriental and tribal dance, Isabel loves giving improvisational performances with live bands and DJ's to a wide range of musical styles. The atmosphere and the energy of live music often bring out some of Isabel's most creative and inspired dancing.
"It's my goal to perform oriental dance in a way that is respectful of its origins, and also reflects my own personality and background. I've always been intrigued by places in the world where traditions meet and blend. In my dancing I strive to express the surprising beauty and unique energy that springs up at the crossroads of different cultures."
