Isabel
Bio

Isabel has enjoyed dancing, movement and costuming since childhood, and was introduced to belly dance in 2004 by the lovely dancers of n.o.madic tribal of New Orleans. She began studying American Tribal Style with n.o.madic and cabaret with the dynamic and beautiful Layla Isis. Isabel immediately fell in love with the danse orientale for its supple movements and powerful musical interpretation.

Since moving from New Orleans to the Baltimore and Washington DC area in 2005, Isabel has performed cabaret and tribal fusion belly dance as a member of Pop Raqs DC and Pure DC. She currently performs as a member of the Raqs Caravan East student company at Sahara Dance. Isabel has danced as a soloist at Veranda Restaurant in Washington DC, Taste of Morocco in Silver Spring, and Lebanese Taverna, Little Morocco and Towson Nights in Baltimore, as well as numerous private parties, haflas, workshops and community events.

Isabel continues to deepen her movement vocabulary and her understanding of Middle Eastern dance and culture.  She takes weekly classes with Rachel Brookmire and the faculty of Sahara Dance, and has taken workshops with Suhaila Salimpour, Nourhan Sharif, Yousry Sharif, Karim Nagi, Rachel George, Blanca and Carmine Guida, Kaeishi Chai and Megha Gavin among many others. She is certified in Levels 1 and 2 of Sahra Saeeda's Journey through Egypt intensive dance ethnology program.
